A beginner’s guide to the Canadian Scene+ Loyalty Program for grocery savings
If you’re wondering if the Scene+ program is the same popular Canadian loyalty program used at Cineplex for scoring great deals on movies, you’re absolutely right! The Scene+ Program is not new, it’s been around for over a decade but has recently announced some exciting new partnerships, including a new program aimed at grocery retailers. In today’s blog we are breaking down the Scene+ membership program, how to earn points, redeem points and maximize your grocery savings!
How to become a member
Signing up is absolutely free! You can grab a card in store or sign up online and have one mailed to you. Scene+ is also available as an app, you can download it today and take advantage of the program. Access your digital Scene+ card through the app, along with tons of great offers.
Participating retailers
Retailers at this time include Sobeys, Safeway, Foodland, Foodland & participating co-ops, FreshCo, Chalo FreshCo, Thrifty Foods, IGA, Rachelle Bery Health & Wellness, Les Maches Tradition, Voila by Sobeys, Voila by Safeway, Voila by IGA, and Needs.
Earnings & Redemptions
Members earn 1 scene point for every $2 spent on in store purchases, for Atlantic Canada members this includes lottery purchases. You can redeem 1,000 Scene points to get $10 off your groceries. You can also now use those Scene+ points to purchase gift cards at participating grocery retailers.
Note, points redemption is only available at participating Sobeys, FreshCo, IGA, Foodland, Safeway, Les Marches Tradition, and Thrifty Foods locations. Needs Convenience locations are excluded from redemptions at this time.
How to maximize your savings!
Earning points is very simple. Scene+ points will be advertised in your local flyer sales, you can check for points on everyday essentials, just by swiping your Scene card at the checkout. Be sure to check the Scene+ app for exclusive offers designed just for you. Below we break these down some popular promos including what to look for, and how to calculate savings.
Example 1: Get sale pricing on advertised products when you scan your Scene+ card at checkout. In this example Raspberries (340g) are on sale for $3.99 for Scene+ card members; meaning you can save $1 just by swiping your card! Those without a Scene+ card pay $4.99.
Example 2: Earn points on everyday essential items. In this example Scene+ members can earn 100 points when you buy 2 Orville Redenbacher Microwave popcorn packs at FreshCo. On sale 2 for $9, plus earn 100 Scene points when you buy 2. Looking to calculate the savings? Let’s break it down below.
2 popcorn packs = $9
- $1 (100 scent points when you buy 2)
= 2 / $8 or $4 each
Example 3: Spend & Earn offers. Check your local flyer for store specific coupons like the one below. In this example Scene+ members can earn $1 back in points (100 points) when they spend $20 on groceries, or $10 back in points (1,000 points) when you spend $100. That’s the equivalent of 10% back in points. You must scan the coupon code at checkout to get this offer, available through your local flyer or on the app.
