Cashback Apps: Everything you need to know

A 101 guide to what cashback offers are, how to get them, and the best ways to use them.

Cashback platforms have become hugely popular over the past five years.  These platforms offer users exclusive offers and cashback on specific brands or products.  Unlike coupons you do not need to present these in store, simply select the cashback offer you want, take a photo of your receipt and upload to the platform of use.  Most platforms allow you to cashout once you hit a specific dollar amount; sending this money straight back to you.  Cashback is a very simple and quick way to earn money off (or back) from your everyday grocery items.  Always make sure you read the limitations and exclusions before you shop, check that the offers are still available and upload your receipt ASAP, so that you don’t miss out.

Checkout 51 or Co51 as couponers refer to it, is easily the most popular cashback app.  Download it to your phone and earn cashback on a wide variety of items.  Popular offers do run out quickly so make sure you grab those items as soon as you can so you don’t miss out.  Co51 also includes bonus offers; for buying at a specific location, buying 2 items from a brand, etc.  These will be highlighted in the details of each offer. Exclusions and limitations do also apply so make sure you open each offer and read through it before you shop.  Examples include store specific offers, or limits of an item you can buy.  Many offers will require barcode verification to validate you have purchased the correct and intended promoted offer.  This is also a great way to confirm you are buying the correct item.  All you have to do is scan the barcode using the in app camera, it will let you know if that item is correct.  Some products stipulate you cannot combine it with any other in app offers or coupons, if you do your receipt will be rejected and you will not earn cashback on that item.  This platform can be quite strict with its terms of use, so make sure you are using it correctly. This means only using one account per person, and uploading one receipt to an account. So while you and your partner may each have an account, you need to make sure the items you purchase for those accounts are on separate receipts. Failure to comply with Co51’s Terms & Conditions can result in a termination of your account (and any money you may have accumulated).

Caddle is a Canadian app with a variety of offers available.  Similar to Co51 popular offers will go fast.  Once you hit $20 you can cashout and they mail a check to you.  They also offer money back for uploading store specific receipts, ex. $0.10 for uploading your receipt from Giant Tiger.  A newer and popular feature is their Amazon specific offers, earning cashback on Amazon linked products.  This platform offers some really great exclusive offers, but they do run out fast! Don’t forget to fill out the surveys, these can help identify products tailored to you and may increase your offerings.

Go Coupons is a website and online platform that offers a combination of coupons and cashback.  Cashback offers do have exclusions; some may or may not be combined with coupons. Offers also vary by province, so you want to make sure your contact details are correct.  Add cashback offers to your wallet and upload your receipt once you’ve purchased them.  As with the rest of the cashback platforms once you hit $20 you can cashout.

Websaver cashback is a newer feature to the Websaver platform.  Cashback offers are store specific so select them before you shop, and based on where you plan to shop.  Simply add offers you like to your ‘Wallet”, using your mobile device you can upload your receipt.  Once you hit $10 you can request payment through Interac or PayPal.

Eclipsa is a newer app, based out of Toronto.  They offer a variety of cashback on everyday items like fruit, vegetables, and pasta.  Same premise as the above, upload your receipts to earn cashback and once you hit $20 here you can cash out!

Combining cashback offers with flyer sales and coupons (when not excluded) is a great way to save money and potential to even get some items for free! The Savin Groceries App is the perfect (and only!) tool that provides Canadians with these details, so check us out today!
